Caroling Bernese
.Where every dog is a teacher
Santera Lillehammer, CD
(OFA GOOD HIPS/NORMAL ELBOWS, CERF, vWD CLEAR)
December 25, 1993 - August 14, 2003

Lille shared a December 25th birthday with Carol, so it seemed destined that she would be our first Berner.  Lille was bred by Sandra Novocin, (CH Mentmore's Sequoia x CH Santera Harmony V Crest).  Not only was she our first Berner, she obtained our first AKC title, was our first drafting dog, our first agility dog, and dam of the first litter born at Caroling.

Diagnosed with adeno carcinoma in December 2001, Lille defied the disease for 20 months during which time she enjoyed good health, was very active and continued to rule the pack and teach us all the meaning of courage, endurance and the value of day to day life with a Berner.
We brought Lille home during the 1994 Winter Olympics which were held in Lillehammer.
In Competition

This is Lille with her beloved Mokey.  A romp with Mokey was her special reward for a job well done when training.

Lille earned four legs in AKC trials, with three placements, including a first place (192.5) over those little herding dogs that dominate the obedience rings.  Lil also garnered a 4th place at the Rhode Island national in Grad Novice.

Motherhood and cruciate
surgery ended her formal obedience work, but she enjoyed an occasional run thru right up to the end of her days and could nail every exercise.

In Harness

Lille took to the cart like she was born in harness.  She made her debut at the national in Rhode Island in the opening parade.  We will always remember the thrill of answering the
call of the alpenhorns.

Lille turned in an almost flawless performance at the Potomac Valley draft test in 1998, but failed to qualify by taking two steps forward on the unload portion of the test.  Arthritis after her cruciate surgery made it impossible to try again for an official title, but we had no doubt she could pull with the best of them.

In The Whelping Box

There couldn't be a better mom than this girl!  Dam of two small litters, Lille loved her pups and was attentive to them long after they were weaned.

Although spayed due to pyometra shortly after her second litter, Lil still got excited when pups were on the premises, and tried to answer their calls for lunch.
She was simply the Best
